Hi, I have seen a report on web of a user who bought an Ultrabook mistakenly thought to be WIDI ready - a HD 4000 machine, but it had a non-intel Wifi card, of course, that meant it had no Widi. The user tried to buy an intel 62xx wifi card, installed it successfully (i.e. wifi works) but Widi still doesn't, despite installing all drivers, etc. I don't know whether this is true or not, but is Widi user upgradable at all? meaning, can it be added by end users to a HD 3000 system and what about a HD 4000 system?
the Intel widi specs page lists all the hardware and software requirements here: Self-Service
but if it is true (due to a design decision or a bug) that only OEM's, not end users can add Widi to an existing PC, even when all the correct components are put together (necessitating some low level software activation or bios modifications required that is not readily available to end users) then that specs page should say so and prevent some anguish and wasted money...also in my opinion Intel should demand that retailers and OEMs clearly show on product spec pages notices such as "This PC does not feature Widi and it can't be added later" if that is indeed the case.
