Galileo 2 Bricked

I just received my Galileo 2 board and was excited to start experimenting with it. Unfortunately I didn't get too far in using it since it seems that I managed to brick it within the first 15 minutes of use. While following the Getting Started guide one of the steps had me update the firmware, but sadly the update process failed and now I have a non-functional board. To be more specified, the firmware update process started ran for approximately 5 minutes and then reported back an error that the firmware upgrade had failed. After the failed update I now have a board that is completely non-responsive other than the power LED lighting up. I see no other lights turn on and it's no longer detected by the computer when connecting the USB cable. It seems from reading various forum posts that the symptoms my board is experiencing points to corrupted firmware. Unfortunately all the solutions point to the need for an expensive hardware programmer in order to re-flash the firmware. Does anyone know if I'm simply out of luck at this point or if there is a less costly method of fixing my board?
